Melbourne-based fashion creator Maxine Wylde has been delighting our feeds with her eclectic, colour-drenched OOTDs since she burst onto the creator scene in 2019. Known for championing vibrant hues, playful styling and local design, Maxine is now carrying that same joyful ethos into her own label, Romeo Waiting.
With a point of view as bold as her palette, Maxine is redefining modern Australian style one multichromatic look at a time. We sat down with Maxine to chat about her unique approach to getting dressed, her creative process and what inspires her signature aesthetic.

01. How would you describe your style?
In three words, I would describe my style as colourful, structured and mismatched!
02. Who are your style icons?
Carrie Bradshaw — because she is the icon. Fran Fine for all the fun, fearless miniskirts. And Rachel Green for those effortlessly chic 90s silhouettes that never go out of style.
03. What Mimco pieces are you currently coveting?
I'm LOVING all the Mimco jewellery at the moment — especially the pieces you can layer endlessly for that stacked, statement look. And I'm also very into the oversized bags right now… the bigger, the better!
04. What's your ultimate styling tip?
My ultimate styling tip? Any colour can work — as long as you find the right shade and give it the right moment in your outfit. Don't be scared of bold hues! And my forever rule: match your shoes to your bag and you'll always win the day, hehe!
05. Is there a current trend that you are loving?
I'm really into the boho vibes at the moment — give me all the chunky jewellery, crafty details, and handmade-feeling accessories! It adds so much personality and texture to any outfit.
06. How do you stay up to date with fashion trends?
I stay on top of fashion trends by following people whose style I adore, keeping up with my favourite magazines, and watching what's happening on and around the runways — and what's happening around them! Street style and behind-the-scenes moments are often where the real inspiration is.
07. What are the three essential accessories in your wardrobe?
My three essential accessories? A bag that fits absolutely everything, a bag that looks good with everything, and one great piece of statement jewellery that can save any outfit!
08. What's the first word that comes to mind when you think of Mimco?
The first words that come to mind? Iconic accessories! I still remember getting my very first Mimco piece at 21. It was such an exciting moment in my young adult life and it's stayed with me ever since.
