International Handbag Day

Celebrating International Handbag Day.

Functional, stylish, and a symbol of self-expression, the humble handbag wears many hats—and is certainly one of our most coveted accessories.

To celebrate International Handbag Day, Sunday 10 October 2021, some of the MIMCO team shared a sneak peek inside their favourite spring bags. From beauty favourites to accessories and sentimental treasures, we uncover the items they can’t live without—and reveal a little insight into who they are along the way.

Why I’m obsessed: I just love the soft lines and beautiful knotted detail. It’s on-trend and roomy enough for my most essential-essentials—I helped design it that way! The perfect day to night bag, plus the white is such a fresh look for spring and summer.

Inside, you’ll find: Sunglasses, hand cream, my Shine Card Wallet and MIM-Pod Keyring (for a touch of sparkle), and a nail file.

Plus, my favourite memento: A Saint Christopher pendant my grandmother gave me as a child to keep me safe on my travels.

What I look for in a bag: I carry a lot around with me, but I want to put my hands on things immediately - so I love having multiple compartments. I also adore the smell and feeling of soft, sculptured leather.

I never leave home without: My camera. You just never know when something unexpected will happen, or the light will throw an amazing shadow. I love capturing those moments so they can live on forever.

Something close to my heart: A keyring that my father gave me. He was a bit daggy, and I loved him for that. It reminds me of him always.

Why I’m obsessed: I love the woven straw finish—the neutral shade works well with my wardrobe, which features a lot of denim and colour.

I need a bag that: Fits anything (and everything). I tend to carry a lot in my bag, so the generous size works for me—I can comfortably fit my reusable coffee cup, card holder, styling kit, props, lots of receipts and lunch on the go.

The most unusual item in my bag is: Lemons! Most of the time I’m carrying a whole fruit bowl in my bag, but especially lemons for hot tea throughout the day.

Special mention goes to: My point and shoot film camera. It was given to me about six years ago and I treasure it.

Why I’m obsessed: Being a busy mum of three little girls, it’s the perfect size to fill with my essentials—without looking like a typical baby bag. I pack my tote with the matching Serenity Lunch Bag (insulated for snacks and drinks) and Cosmetic Pouch (perfect for nappy balm and sunscreen), my frank green water bottle, Sunglasses, baby wipes, sanitiser… the list goes on!

The most practical item in my bag is: The MIM-Lip Charm Keyring (technically ‘on’ my bag) which houses my favourite lipstick. So handy to never have to rummage around in your bag again!

My most treasured possession: A necklace with the initial ‘A’ on it that represents my girls. My friends gave it to me after having my youngest daughter. If I’m not wearing it, it’s stored safely in my bag.
