MIMCO TRAVEL GUIDE

Follow MIMCO’s Managing Director, Sarah Rovis and our design team on their recent round-the-world inspiration trip with this very MIMCO guide of what to see, do and eat in some of the world’s most vibrant cities.

LONDON with Sarah Rovis, Managing Director

See: Selfridges’ new Accessory Hall…it’s like going to handbag heaven.

Do: Cocktail hour at the Sanderson Hotel.

Eat: Stop by ‘The Wolseley’ for lunch or dinner and you’ll instantly feel like you’ve stepped back in time. They also have the best Nicoise salad (and breadstick) I’ve ever eaten!

Shop: Dover St. Market is filled with amazingly inspiring visual merchandising,
pop-up shops and installations.

Stay: At The Sanderson, of course! It’s the best concierge service I’ve encountered in years and the
Pear Martini is to die for.

Top City Tips: Struggling to find a real (read: Melbourne) coffee? Kaffeine in Fitzrovia just behind
Oxford St is a favourite!

PARIS with Renaya, Trend & Art Forecaster

See: Visit Fondation Louis Vuitton, the architecture by Frank Gehry is amazing in itself but it hosts a great collection of art and exhibitions. Also, remember to look up at the ceiling of Galeries Lafayette…it is incredible!

Do: Search for vintage treasures at the Clignancourt Market / Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. Put aside a whole day to explore and dig around – there is something to discover at every turn!.

Eat: Order the plateau à fromage (or cheese platter, if you will) and a glass of red wine at Café De Flore and watch the Parisians pass by.

Shop: Le Bonne Marche, is my favourite department store in Paris. It has an incredible shoe floor, great fashion and even a super-chic food market!

Top City Tips: Learn some French! Even if it’s just a shy ‘bonjour' or ‘merci'…give it a shot! It's respectful
& appreciated.

NYC with Sophie, Senior Jewellery Designer

See: Immerse yourself in the breathtaking views of the city from the observation deck at the Rockefeller Centre. During the cooler months you can ice skate on the Rockefeller Rink.

Do: Explore NYC’s trendiest neighbourhood, Nolita. The streets are lined with little gallery spaces and artist/designer boutiques – definitely a great location for spotting lesser-known designers.

Eat: A real New York institution, Balthazar has a beautiful French menu – I’d recommend the
Steak au Poivre – and a cool French-meets-NYC interior.

Shop: Head to Barney’s for exclusive designer pieces and The Apartment by The Line NYC for unique art, fashion, beauty and furniture. The store itself is an actual apartment, which has been decorated and fitted to house an amazing collection.

Top City Tips: Get lost amongst New York’s incredibly diverse neighbourhoods. Nolita is an area
I personally hadn’t been through before but it became one of my new favourites.

LA with Ailsa, Head of Design

See: People watching on Venice Beach is incredible – there’s such a mix of individuals around.

Do: Plan your visit to LA to coincide with the famous monthly Rose Bowl Flea Market, held on the 2nd Sunday of every month in Pasadena.

Eat: Head to Terra Cotta Restaurant, Korea Town for stylish chandelier-lit share tables and modern Japanese cuisine. Oh…did I mention the cocktails?!

Shop: A concept store like no other, Just One Eye is tucked away in Hollywood’s backstreets. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to buy everything – to wear, to have in your house, or to hang on the walls!

Top City Tips: Soak up the “celebrity culture” on Melrose Place. The beautiful buildings were once residential houses – the Chloe store was previously Neil Diamond’s!
