Whether it’s her eclectic style or her enduring legacy as one of Australia’s most-loved designers, Jenny Kee has always projected an air of effortless creativity and originality that you just can’t help but be drawn to.

Jenny’s vivacious, larger-than-life personality and creative spirit seemed destined to be passed down to her daughter Grace Heifetz. A literary agent, and mother herself, Grace counts her creative freedom as a child amongst the greatest things that her mum has given her.

How important was it for you to let Grace be creative when she was growing up?
It was really important for me to have Grace be creative. She was a really naturally creative kid; she used to make Barbie dolls look amazing, she used to be so original with them. She could turn her hand to draw anything and she was a really interesting writer. She came from a designer mum and a painter/artist father and she just flowed with us and she did everything we did. It was so important to me to allow her to express herself. Michael and I both had larger than life personalities, and to see that in her now, she’s just larger and larger than we ever were – it’s magnetising.

The most valuable thing my mother has taught me is…
To always be myself and to embrace what I had in order to be the best person I could be.

My mum has shaped my creativity…
From a really young age – from the womb even! Growing up in an incredibly creative environment and the freedom I had was the greatest. It was like being in a sort of fantasy, dream-like childhood.
