A look behind the Melbourne-based MIMCO Head Office

At MIMCO, our designs have meaning; they are a culmination of months of planning, research and long days on the drawing board. There is detail behind every stroke; precision behind every stitch; and craftsmanship behind every motif. This is our brand philosophy.

Last year, MIMCO gave its headquarters in Melbourne a much-needed facelift. The result? Design with meaning.

Artillery is a progressive-thinking design and architecture consultancy with offices in Melbourne, London, and Dubai. Founded in 1987, Artillery has been championing the cause of clean, functional design – that is both cost-effective and environment-friendly – for over two decades. When MIMCO met with Artillery, both parties immediately knew that they were a good fit – resolute in their commitment to lasting design; bold in their creative process.

Located within the now-defunct Richmond power station, a heritage site with a high, curved ceiling, MIMCO’s headquarters in Melbourne are a contemporary meld of Victorian history and cool, cosmopolitan style.

When MIMCO first took over the power station, its wide, open space conjured endless possibilities of creative collaboration – no closed rooms, no multi-level storeys, no impediments of a corporate structure. Artillery translated MIMCO’s vision into an ergonomic workplace – well-positioned desks, collaborative benches, jewellery construction tables – that cleared the way for a free flow of ideas across different teams in the MIMCO office. The meeting room is a freestanding facility that was custom-built into the office; facing the large arched and round windows, the pièce de résistance of the office, the meeting room is inundated with natural light. Steel and engineering have been incorporated to bolster old, crumbling walls and the ceiling while still adding a chic, industrial look to the office.

The MIMCO office is an extension of our brand – empowering in its design, uncomplicated in its functionality, and timeless in its aesthetic.
